The shelter has been through some very trying times while we advance into therapeutic uses of the critters. We call ourselves "a movie in the making" and we ARE seeking Cdn or U.S Film Makers to put our story on film as a TV Movie! Know of any? Please Contact Us
We work very hard to keep things up to par and with daily chores, we worry due to crimes committed against us and we follow through on one of our main objectives, to win over the compassion of good folks who care about bonds between people and animals.

Bulletin: as of March 14th 2007, the shelter is no longer offering adoption services.
June 25th 07 I received yet another email of someone who prefers to be misinformed and negative- always looking for something "wrong" as opposed to encouraging, informative and postive. The email follows: (my response is after)
info on the site. I am somewhat disappointed by info about
certain things. First there are vets across Alberta actively involved in
trap/alter/release programs for ferals.
The SNIP (spay neuter incentive)program has been ongoing in Calgary, there are
spay/neuter clinics. The petition you have on site implies that you need
governments ot step in and tell vets to do this!! Many vets work with rescue
societies that follow the proper protocol of altering ALL pets on premises, full
vaccines and appropriate facilities.
Re; the Tattoo find ??? for FREE you can trace an animals tattoo via the letter
number combination by calling any vet clinic who will have the master list to
identify which clinic altered the pet..or the humane societies. The marketing
technique implies that Tattoo find will be better - except it only works for
those who have registered their pet. For FREE and no registration, we can trace
a readible tattoo. Vet clinics also know how to trace an out of province tattoo,
CKC and AKA tattoos.
If you wnat support form the veterinary community, then work with them instead
of portraying vets as uncaring (that most wont touch ferals or support a spay/
neuter program)...or that we are so inept at tracing tattoos that you have to
start a registry...
This letter is my personal opinion and am responding as an AHT who has helped
MANY vets over the years, I have traced hundreds of tattoos, and althgouh your
site implies you have a great program....are all the animals vaccinated /
altered??

in May of 2005, I began the petition at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Spay_Neuter_Canada/ - here on the site, you can find the lead to the Petition for Spaying and Neutering Clinics here The entry to the petition says: "Canadian Pet Owners need lower costs via Special Clinics, designated for Spaying and Neutering of Pets (key words and continues to say)

Aside from hindering unwanted births and better management of populations, spaying and neutering hinders Feline Aids and other unmanageable diseases, creating a healthier population and longer lives for loved pets" By Aug of 2005, I went offline for almost 11 months and did not promote this petition, however, many did read it and it inspired them to start programs.
Since the time of this petition, one such clinic is now in B.C. (that assists the public with alterations - not shelters) and is sponsored by the SPCA and caring Vets who donate their time - Since the time of my petition in 2005, there are - now - programs started at shelters like Heaven Can Wait - called "Spay it Forward" (as you well know) - ARF also now offers assistance to Calgarians - Haven't I done a good job and inspired such good deeds? Those of us here certainly think so AND those who have signed the Petition are in fact those who head shelters, even a few from the Human Society and it has inspired them. Attention to this Petition has seen the beginning of many NEW Programs since 2005 - when did Heaven Can Wait begin her program? I obtain the newspaper introductory! This program started after my petition was up and folks were signing. Sorry, but unlike others, I do not have any influence over the iPetition Website and cannot alter the dates! This Petition has inspired many!
As for Tattoo Find - take a gander at the dates at bottom of the pages luv!
Plus, a lot of Tattoos run/bleed, some can only read the beginning letters, some, not at all! By at least knowing the beginning numbers and by viewing photos, helps bring pets home!
In addition, I realize that in YOUR AREA, you have probably been able to assist in pet owners retrieve their pets, because, your clinic or that of the other in your locality - were in fact the Vets that did the alterations. And yes, I know of the listing on the "Alberta Vets Association page" that lists the beginning 3 numbers used by clinics all over Alberta (i recently filed a couple of complaints concerning matters you may want to pay attention to)
©Tattoo Find a great idea for us to raise money for our shelter - because local Vets - who "refuse" to recognize us - or assist us - (as you WELL KNOW Mrs. R) and who also sit on a board of directors that has no shelter or facility of their own - are feeling a tad sassy because - well, competition isn't very liked...
I personally have hindered THOUSANDS OF BIRTHS - single handedly - without assistance from Vets here or in the next county - why?! Perhaps it is because they help someone else of preferance and even though I have a document from the Government that recognizes us as Animals Alone Special Keepers Society - the Vets, look the other way and they do this because, they prefer to believe the worst - like you for instance!
Fortunately for me, I do have a 32 year Vet Tech, who has closely watched what's been going on since 2003! Who has not back stabbed me when the chips were down, especially after paying out thousands of dollars single handedly. SHE has been there through thick and thin! I am so grateful for her assistance and to those she has directed me to. Again, unlike some other Vets that I know of.
In conlcusion, no - not all my animals are presently spayed or neutered - I have had NO HELP OR RECOGNITION other than the kindness and assistance of ONE Vet, who has in the past been of great encouragement and backing - unlike his full charging associates. I miss him dearly!!!!! So much could have been accomplished by now and so many benefits could have prevailed. Shame and it is one of the reasons I filed a complaint at the Alberta Vets Association.
I wanted to believe that some folks were smarter than all that and that after going through 16 vehicules, 28 flat tires, deaths to 11 of my animals that were caused by intruders, 2 homes that were invaded, the shooting of my kitchen cupboards, the ripping off the wall of my bathroom sink, the break and enters in my camper where "sassy" was and the terror of the break and entries that caused her to hold off on birthing, consequently causing still births - (and was charged FULL price to have her spayed when she was already opened up on the table and remarks were made that she had "fat" - because someone else informed my then vets, that all my females were skinny and unhealthy - but as my vets, they knew different!!!!) the action of being dragged to court and the LOSSES of my two homes due to a tenchnicality, the seeking of assistance from the Privacy Act Commissioner for information that was rightly mine, complaints to the SPCA by a woman who denied ownership of 40 or more black and white cats, stating they were mine, yet weeks later admitted to an RCMP Corp - that they were in fact hers and that she'd built me a garbage can to deter her cats from ripping apart my garbage for which I refused and returned (claiming I had damaged her property in the return), who lied and took in very very sick black and white kittens with FIV and Leukemia to a shelter and claimed they were mine, the detatching of my outdoor animal pens so that my animals would be at large and later over a period of time, we obtained 28 flat tires in total done with the screws that were unscrewed from our pens, attempting to set my winnebego on fire with 30 odd animals in it!!!! and the list goes on and on ---- I thought that those who were professional, educated people, would clearly see, that after so much harrassment, added by the paperwork, documentation, called in complaints that had no validity, vet billings and their gross totals, mortgage payments, court documents, pictures upon pictures --- would realize that a tiny paragraph in the middle of something so irrelevant concerning a Vet I had NEVER MET (but my opposers did not know this!) and his staff of whom I had never met AND how an article I wrote about the oppositions point of view concerning the SPCA, got all twisted around (had they have read teh entire article themselves, they would have caught the link to an article I'd written 2 weeks prior concerning how SPCA's and Humane Society's did not own football field tyoe buildings to house the number of unwanted pets that irresponsible people surrender!)
But no, these "professionals" prefered to believe I debased them, when all I'd ever done was praise and endorse them! And to think that these professionals - after everything my family and I have been through, refuse to recognize the malice acts against my family and the shelter - but instead "WANT" to believe the worst of us... reality check Mrs. R - if the list of malice acts against my family does not register and you cannot see that being hacked was yet another act of malice against us - then the complaint I filed has definate validity.
Thanks for NOT helping us and for turning on us when we needed you the most.
And frankly, why you are offended by the Tattoo Registry is beyond me! IS it because you didn't think of it yourselves? The letter I have to encourage Vets to use our service and see their client's altered pets on the list, was sent to Corp Registry for approval and they saw no offense in it. Am I not permitted to earn money to support the shelter? And no we did not send any to Nanton, becuz we know, that "something" will be found WRONG with it and we'll see no encouragement or participation from the clinics located there - thanks to our opposition and how the Vet's businesses would be effected should they support us in anything for that matter.
Believe what you want, you have chosen to not recognize the most important fact of all - we do this for the animals and not for profit AND when I pay full price for services, I expect to get service - not debasing opinions.
Check out PetLynx in Calgary and send them a letter like you did me. For the hell of it, try and look through lost pets or even found pets and tell me again that what I'm doing with Tattoo Find is a bad thing and misrepresents Vets - good grief woman! How's Kim by the way?
Our society will soon be a Charity and in the process, we are purchasing a retreat type facility, to continue our cause, to pursue our programs in depth and no thanks to you I might add!
