The Strays We've Brought In:
ALL Strays that we've caught, are critters that we've either received calls for that were sick, a menace in the garbage or ones that we've watched for some time. As of March 2007, we've rescued 160 animals!
One of our priorities, was to catch the females, so as to hinder further unwanted births and even though our own funding has been close to nil over the past two years due to the ongoing opposition, we have hindered approximately the birth of over a thousand stray cats!
For some of the strays that have been a menace due to garbage picking, we encourage folks to use closed garbage cans to hinder inviting hungry animals - and not just strays - we are afterall, a rural shelter and wild critters do roam about.
We've built outdoor shelters where we do drop offs 3-4 times a week of dry food to assist in keeping up their health and to hinder them from getting into garbage. This method also helps us befriend the strays, as they grow accustomed to our scent - this helps when it comes time to catch them and bring them in.
Mittens, brought in Jan02: one of 4 kittens belonging to black longhaired female stray - 3 were adopted out for free - then 2 were abandoned later on - Mittens had to be euthanized nov05 at only 3 yrs old. (we'd had him neutered) Purr, brought in Mar02: severe facial and gum injuries by an Owl. A neighbor's kitten, left outside in hopes that someone would take him - we asked and did. We mended him and he now has a small hairlip and is still missing 3 back teeth on right side that never grew secondary, due to his injuries 2 Sisters, brought in April02: 2 of 5 young adults, all were so small we thought they were approx 4 months old, but both were pregnant
Sisters Kittens, born May02: sisters would take turns tending to the young as one is seen here, feeding and sleeping with 8 kittens! (2 females turned into 10 cats after birthing!) 2 kittens died. 3 Brothers, brought in April02: 3 of 5, all were so small we thought they were 4 months old, one of their sisters is seen to the left. Max, on the left, neutered, had to be euthanized Feb04 Baby Momma and Spot, brought in Sept02: Spot(b&w) was believed to be a neighbors cat, but they insisted not, who played with the little black. After several weeks they attempted to break into our outdoor pen for food, so they were trapped. Posters were put out, but no claims were made. (the b&w is still untouchable (07)
Sheeba, brought in July02: was owned by a family who had her tied outside 24/7 - who was asked that if they didn't want their dog, to surrender her and they did. Sheebs was adopted by one of our Board Members and is a Program Animal used with people of all ages. Spazz Girl, brought in June03: found living in a box at the recycling depot. Box had a Cdn. flag for a blanket and she wore a collar. Her tail was broken in 2 spots and the tip was missing. Spazz is now spayed. Butterfly, brought in Nov03: this poor ol gal had been breeding and breeding, so we made it our mission to befriend her and bring her in. She is now a Program Animal that's used with people of all ages.
Lucky and Boo, brought in Sept03: 2 of 3 young brothers, Lucky (front) had gangerean in his tail and had to be snipped, Boo is in back (both have since been neutered) Serenity, brought in Sept03: 1 of 3 brothers (seen to the left), that lived under a mobile. Ser has since been neutered as well Jinny, brought in Aug03: 1 of 4 kittens, lived under a mobile. She was the weakest of the 4 and could barely walk. She was later spayed.
Tiger, brought in Sept03 with 4 kittens: Tiger was 1 of 3 Adults. Was adopted with her sister(seen right), then later abandoned. Sister to Mittens (1st pic), as well. Tiger died in Feb04 - she was a sociable little gal and so sadly missed! Moonface, brought in Sept03 with 5 kittens: now the sole survivor of the 3 Adults- She was pregnant again, so she negelcted her 5 kittens and care was needed for them. She soon birthed 6 new kittens. She also suffered trauma with the death of her close sister Tiger and refused to eat. We almost lost her too. Moon is a Sponsored Kitty! Moon's 5 Kittens, brought in Sept03: Due to Moon's new pregnancy, she neglected these 4 orange & 1 grey and white, so we fed them till we could bring them in. By the time we grabbed them at 4 months old, all were sick. "Rusty" had to be euthanized. The remainders have been neutered and 1 spayed
Oomf, brought in Sept03: 1 of 2 kittens belonging to Tiger (seen above), that lived under a mobile. Oomf has since been neutered. Oomf is one of our Program Animals used with children. Jumper, brought in Nov03: after a car pulled up in our driveway, then left. He was missing part of one ear and hung out in the outdoor shelter for almost 2 weeks till we could make accomodations for him. Huckaberry, brought in Dec03: after being found by carolling kids, hidden in a closet for 3 days till "mom" found him, then taken to school to see if anyone wanted him. When no one did, he was wrapped in an adult's coat and placed in my back alley. Died Wed. June 13/07 Urinary Tract Infection

"Queeks" is doing fine and is the smallest female we've ever seen! Lil Momma, brought in April04: pregnant, later birthing 5 kittens - one had to be euthanized. This little gal is very timid and shy to the touch. She's finally coming around.
Lil Mommas Kittens", 2 of the 4 remaining kittens born to Lil Momma - the orange and white we named "Terror" - he is an adventurer but afraid of most people. The lil gray, we named W.E (white ear) as he is attentive. Shadow "Baby Girl", began tending to in June04: after being abandoned in the Campground. She was very mistrusting and finally came in the side porch to birth ONE kitten in May 05 and has been in care since. She will not let anyone touch her to date. (07) My Girl, brought in Oct 04 after many reports were received that a collie dog was frantically trying to attach herself to folks. We put this gal on tv in Aug/05, with no claims, she is home to stay. She is also a Program Animal used with children. She loves to hug and submits herself immediately around small kids!
Stripes, brought in Nov 04 after many reports were received that he was meowing constantly and seemed to be alone. We observed and fed him for 2 days then brought him in. Posters were put out, but he was never claimed. He has since been neutered and is a Program Animal used with people of all ages. Were adding! More to come!
Orphan, brought in late Oct 06 after being found by a Volunteer and my grandson in the Winnebego where the animals were housed from late aug05-aug06. No animals were left in the winnebego after sept/06, so this baby was left by a do-gooder (that we thank) and was fed by dropper for a month. Mom and Pookey, Black long haired Mom was with us for 2 yrs, then was let out of the Winnebego by Intruders. Took us 3 weeks to catch her and she'd been inpregnated. Her baby, seen here at 4 months old, was a mommas girl so we named her Pookey. Both are sweet gals!
